Pablo López García was born in Asturias (SPAIN) in 1972 and graduated in 1998 in Industrial Engineering with the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieréa Industrial of Gión.

Before joining the Robotics & Multibody Mechanics group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2017, Pablo hold for over 20 years various executive and operational roles within the European automotive industry, always with a strong focus on actuation technologies.

In 2022, he obtained his PhD in Applied Sciences from the VUB on the topic of "planetary gearboxes for electrical actuators in the field of robotics". This research received an Innovation Research grant from the VUB and a Proof-of-Concept research grant from Innoviris, the innovation agency of the city of Brussels.

Currently Pablo works as a postdoctoral researcher and entrepreneur in the PoweRing start-up project, aimed at bringing the R2poweR planetary gearbox technology developed during his PhD to the market. This research is supported by an Innovation Mandate from VLAIO, the Innovation & Entrepreneurship agency of Flanders, and a second Innovation Research grant from the VUB.

Since 2021, he is also an active member of the Automation & Robotics Committee of the reputable American Gears Manufacturers Association (AGMA).

The focus of my research are mechanical transmissions that can be combined with electrical motors to build highly efficient actuators with large torque density for use in human-centric robotic applications, like exoskeletons, cobots, prosthesis, humanoids, ...
