Prof. dr. ir. Greet Van de Perre received the degree in Mechanical Engineering and PhD degree from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2011 and 2018 respectively. For her PhD in social robotics at the Robotics & Multibody Mechanics Research Group, she was granted a PhD Fellowship from the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO). As postdoctoral researcher, she extended her focus towards collaborative robotics for industry, for which she obtained both a Junior and Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship from the FWO. In 2021, she was appointed as a 10% associate professor at the Robotics & Multibody Mechanics Research group, VUB. From 2023 she is appointed as associate professor at the Department of Engineering Technology, on a Senior Research Fellowship granted by VUB‘s Research Council. Her research interests include human-robot collaboration, safe and lightweight robotics and multi-agent manufacturing.

Research

Greet‘s PhD research focused on how gestures and motions can be effectively generated for social robots with different morphologies. This resulted in the development of an open-source generic gesture software to automatically create joint trajectories for a desired robot morphology. In addition, she developed an actuated upper body for the social robot Elvis, for which an optimal morphology was selected by performing a gesture study using the developed software.

As postdoctoral researcher, she has been working on collaborative robotics for industry, with a focus on lightweight and flexible link robotics and the development of safe control strategies.
