Kristel Knaepen received her M.S. degree in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy (magna cum laude) from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium, in September 2005. In April 2006 she started as a researcher at different departments of the faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy (VUB). In January 2008 she joined the department of Human Physiology and Sports Medicine (VUB) of Prof. Dr. Romain Meeusen and started her PhD on the ALTACRO project. Her main fields of interest are the (neuro)physiological assessment of human-robot interaction (through e.g. electroencephalography) and neuroplasticity of the brain (through neurotrophins such as BDNF). Currently, she is also involved in the FP7 project CYBERLEGs - The CYBERnetic LowEr-Limb CoGnitive Ortho-prosthesis where she participates in the neurophysiological assessment of the human-robot interface.
